What causes Oral Candidiasis?
Oral Candidiasis can be described an yeast infection of the mouth, what caused it? The real cause behind Oral Candidiasis is something called Candida Albicans. According to Wikipedia, Candida Albicans is a diploid fungus (a form of yeast) and a causal agent of opportunistic oral and genital infections in humans. A small amount of Candida Albicans resides in our bodies naturally. For most healthy people, they are kept in check by other bacterias. When one’s immune system is weaken, problems arises. The over growth of yeast, or Candida Albicans starts to take over. They tend to overgrow, therefore reduce the body’s good bacteria, and causing an imbalance. The overgrowth of Candida Albicans is then referred also as Oral Thrush or Candidiasis Oral.
Yeast infection in general can occur anyone in the body, but its tend to like places that are good for fungus to thrive. Human mouth seems to be the ideal location for such fungus to thrive, due to its warm, moist, and dark qualities.
Chances are that smokers are more likely to be infected with Oral Thrush than non smokers. Same goes of diabetics, and those that uses steroids. Medication sometimes also upset the balance of one’s body, and for those with Oral Candidiasis, the balance of microorganisms in one’s mouth. Aside from the aforementioned steroids, oral birth control pills or contraception, as well as antibiotics may also cause Oral Thrush. More over, some medication situation are more likely to be infected, those situations include HIV Infection, Cancer, and pregnancy. And please be aware, mothers, who breast feed, may be infected by their infants during breast feeding.
